Both, Hazewinkel& Pronk family were skippers and sailors, Their "homebase" was Veendam, but they lived of course where there ship anchored --henk 10:29, 18 May 2013 (EDT)

Yes. A couple of my Bouma ancestors were sailors and skippers from Harlingen, and a lady from my church has a book of stories from her skipper grandfather Willem Korfker. In both cases, they eventually emigrated and took jobs on land because of pressure from their families. --Pkeegstra 06:21, 20 May 2013 (EDT)
