    A note in the parish registers at the start of a new marriage book in 1792 notes that the previous Rushden marriages register had been destroyed by fire:
    "Whereas in the Year 1792 sometime before the Solemnization of the above Marriage the Chancel was broke into & set on Fire by some Person or Persons, & the Chest containing the Marriage Register burnt...".
