The births of the four eldest children, Elizabeth, William, Joseph and Nathaniel, are not recorded in any published Connecticut Vital Records. Apparently, the only source for those dates is Stiles' History of Wethersfield (2:166). There was at least one additional child not named in Stiles, Ann Burnham married Joseph Hollister in 1694 (Hale, House 625). The gravestone of Elizabeth (Burnham) Griswold clearly says that she was born 28 March 1674, and the marriage record in the published Wethersfield vital records specifically identifies the woman who married Michael Griswold 12 May 1692 as Elizabeth Burnham, daughter of William. One could conclude that the birth dates for the children of this family prior to Jonathan in 1692, are at least suspect and that the date of this marriage, as given by Stiles, is a decade too late.
