- I have created this page with Sarah Unknown because of the confusion of the secondary literature, trusting somebody with good sources might be able to correct it at some point.
NEHGR, "Benjamin Hanks and Some of His Descendants", Vol. 86 (1932), p. 21, says Uriah Hanks "married first Sarah Keeney of Litchfield, Conn.; and secondly at West Hartford, Conn., 27 Nov 1798, Sarah (Fitch) (Dorchester) Henry, widow, of Mansfield. Children by second wife".
Source:Dorchester, Janice Miriam Potter. Anthony Dorchester and His Descendants, p. 24, publ. 1998, says Daniel Dorchester m. 24 Jun 1784 Sarah Keeney, d/o Alexoran and Sarah Webster Keeney, d. bet. 1793 and 1798. Sarah, b. 11 Apr 1768, d. 14 Jan 1847, m. (2) 27 Nov 1798 Uriah Hanks and had four children by him.
Family Search Indexing show the death of Sarah, the wife of Uriah Hanks, 4 Jul 1818, age 3, citing the Charles R. Hale collection. There is also a death of a Samuel Hanks, s/o Rodney and Olive Hanks, on 4 Jul 1818, age 3, so it appears Sarah's index entry was corrupted by the data from a neighboring record. The indexing shows the death of Sarah Hanks ([1]) on 14 Jan 1847, age 79, so born 1768, but this record is not identified as the widow of Uriah Hanks, so it does not appear to be the same record.
This is a hopeless jumble of second and third hand information. No arrangement seems to work without being contradicted in some facet by another source. Very little of the information except the marriage record and death record cited have been found.
