Michael, David and Michael Kauffman

Michael, David and Martin Kauffman migrated probably from Germany, to Pennsylvania (Lancaster County) and then to Orange/Augusta County in the mid-1730's, where records prove they all acquired land on the Shenandoah River. They are assumed to be brothers as some records indicate, including the will of Martin, who refers to "the brotherhood" in his will in Augusta County records, with David and Michael Kauffman witnessing:

  • Page 125.--No date. Martin Kaufman's will in German and translated-- 1. She, herself, shall administer; my brother shall be her bondsman; the appraisers shall be out of the brotherhood. 2. She to have the estate until the eldest son comes of age. 3. Sons and all the children. Teste: David Kaufman, Michael Kaufman, Hans Root. Proved, 17th May, 1749, by Michael Kaufman and John Root. Widow Barbara granted administration.
