Several researchers have said Thomas Sturman's wife was Mary Lewis; however, a marriage record has not yet been found. It's likely, from the age of the children, that they would have been married somewhere around 1775 to 1780. In addition to having several daughters, there was probably one or possibly two sons. Some say there was "Thomas" and "Humphrey"; others say there was only one son named "Thomas Humphrey".

Candee Hoff found the estate papers of Thomas Sterman, Sr. along with mentions of his son-in-laws. The estate of Thomas "Sterman, Sr." is located in Knox County, Indiana. He died in 1809 and his two sons were mentioned -- Thomas Sterman, Jr. and Humphrey Sterman.
