'The will of Sarah (Griswold) (Phelps) Pinney, mother of Abigail Phelps, made 13 June 1711, calls this daughter Abigail Winchell; and it seems that it was the widow of David Marshall, miscalled Abigail "Marshfield" by Stiles (Ancient Windsor, 2:797) who m. 10 Mar. 1697/8 Stephen Winchell, b. 13 Aug. 1677 (over ten years her junior), d. at Simsbury, Conn., 18 Dec. 1725. ... This suggestion as to the identity of the Winchell who married David Marshall's widow was made by Donald L. Jacobus, but neither he nor the contributor of this article considers it fully proved.'
