Based on Scots-Irish naming patterns, the oldest daughter is Margaret as shown in this list. But the eldest son would have been William. William's date of birth is known from a family Bible record published by Craig and by his gravestone. William was born 21 Mar 1775. I show James as the youngest son, not the oldest. His parents, Samuel and Mary Wright, sold him 590 acres of land in Adams County, OH, for $1 on 7 April 1810. Samuel and Mary Wright executed deeds of land to their children in 1808 and 1810: In Dec 1808: 250 acres to James McKitrick (husband of Margaret Wright) for $51; and 400 acres to Thomas Maxwell (husband of Elizabeth Wright) for $134. Then on April 1810, Samuel and Mary Wright sold land to the rest of their children: 244 acres to Robert Brackenridge (husband of Mary Wright) for $1; 560 acres to Samuel Wright for $1; Wm Wright 615 acres for $1; 793 acres to John Wright for $1; 590 acres to James Wright for $1; and 665 acres to Robt Wright for $1.

I have been unable to positively identify children and their birthdates for Margaret (Wright) McKitrick or for Elizabeth (Wright) Maxwell. Both are listed in the 1820 census for Adams County, OH. James McKittrick shows a female between 10 and 14, but the marriage of James and Margaret was recorded in Bourbon County, KY, in 1790. This suggests that Margaret was born before 1770. Living with Thomas Maxwell in 1820 is a female 16-25. The 1791 marriage of Thomas Maxwell and Elizabeth Wright is also recorded in Bourbon Couny, KY. Based on the dates of these marriages, I list these two daughters as the two eldest children of Samuel and Mary Wright.

I list Mary (Wright) Breckenridge as the third child of Samuel and Mary Wright. The oldest child of Robert and Mary (Wright) Breckenridge was born in 1797.

Next in order of births of the children of Samuel and Mary Wright would be William, born in 1775. William's oldest child was born in 1801. The gravestone for John Wright, son of Samuel and Mary, gives his birthdate as 3 Aug 1777. The oldest child of John Wright was born about 1805.

I list Samuel as the next child of Samuel and Mary. Samuel's marriage is said to have occurred in Adams Co, OH, in Mar 1808. The birth of his eldest child was estimated to have occurred in the same year.

Robert Wright, son of Samuel and Mary, married in Adams County, OH, in 1811. His oldest child was born about 1813.

We do not know when Samuel and Mary's son James was born. But he appears to have been the first to die. His estate was settled in Adams County, OH, in June 1828. His oldest daughter's age in the 1850 census was given as 38, placing her birth in 1812. James Wright was certainly one of the youngest of the children of Samuel and Mary Wright, if not the youngest. I place him in the list of children as the youngest. He certainly was not the oldest.--Bill Wright 08:49, 25 May 2009 (EDT)
