The Sallie DeWitt 1981 Genealogy states that Lee DeWitt eloped with Claudia Cordelia Victoria Vest. They were married at the preacher's house in Branch, Arkansas, after getting her suitcase which was packed and hidden. Lee traded his best saddle for the twenty mile wagon ride that took him and his bride to Booneville, and then Paris, Arkansas. They then took the train to Oklahoma.
