Given John's age, born by 1665 to be of legal at at his first marriage, this wife Sarah Garfield is almost certainly a widow. It also appears that when John died in 1739, his widow was named Mary in his probate documents, so Sarah appears to have died prior to John. However, as neither her death record nor John's subsequent remarriage has been found, this is not certain.
