Jean Guenon: Founder of the family and first to use the name Genung,an Americanization unique to this family in America.

Jean was a French Huguenot, a native of the Province of Saintonge (Now Called Charente-Maritime),near La Rochelle, then the principle stronghold of the Huguenots.

He went to Leyden,South Holland and then to Amsterdam where on April,2, 1657, he boarded the ship "Draetvat for America.

Book: "The Trail of the Huguenots" by G. Elmore Reaman, pg. 212 One of the best known families in the Maritimes if the Ganong, orginally Guenon. The family originated in the Province of Saintonage in the vicinity of La Rochelle. Jean Grenon sailed from Amsterdam on April 2nd, 1657 and landed at New Amsterdam (New York) and settled at Flushing, Long Island.
