  2. Torrey is an index and considers all sources equally. As shown, it gives many dates and without access to the underlying sources tells us nothing probative. So many of Torrey's sources are so trivial that it never seems worthwhile to look them all up (e.g., above, History of Bellingham, p. 69, "His son Isaac married Mercy Rocket or Rockwood there", no date given.). Various sources give the date as "April 1, 1691 or 1692" (Cutter), "1 Feb 1692" (Champlin & Thayer), "01 Apr or 01 Jun 1692" (Vincent Beckley Roberts), etc. No marriage record has been located (not found in americanancestors.org, Mendon VRs, Bellingham VRs). The source for the marriage is often listed as the will of John Rockwood, which is good for establishing identities, but probably does not contain the marriage date. Especially, since it was apparently writen in 1724! (Incidentally, naming Mercy, wife of David Thompson as a granddaughter, she thought to be a daughter of Isaac and Mercy, making Mercy his daughter).
