    According to his application for pension for service War of 1812, John Steele married Jane Compton in Wilson Co. Tenn. in 1810. The record of this marriage apparently does not survive. In Wilson Co. marriage records there is a marriage for Alexander Steele to Lucy Compton, Aug. 11, 1806. John and Alexander are in the White Co., TN 1820 census. I believe they are brothers, sons of Andrew and Martha Buchanan Steele.
