Advisory

Alexander Steele's name is NOT "John Alexander Steele" as listed on several Ancestry Member Trees. Some researchers have combined Alexander with his younger brother John Steele into one person. They have separate records on the 1820 U.S. Census. Both Alexander and John married Compton sisters, daughters of Vincent Compton (1760-1807) - Alexander married Lucy Compton on 11 August 1806 and John married Jane Compton on 28 August 1806, both marrying in Wilson County, Tennessee. Researchers have also combined Lucy Compton and her sister Jane Compton into a single person "Lucy Jane Compton" who (of course) married "John Alexander Steele", also in error.
