Return to 1st Ohio Heavy Artillery

Mustered in (as Company C, 117th Ohio Infantry) 14 September 1862 at Camp Portsmouth, Ohio. Mustered out 25 July 1865 at Knoxville, Tennessee. Original captain was Leonidas C. Heaton, who resigned 4 November 1863. He was replaced by Samuel Bivens, who was promoted from 1st Lieutenant on 14 November 1863. He remained captain of Company C until the company mustered out.
