Next step: Review your GEDCOM [28 December 2016]

You're not done yet!

Now that you have uploaded ward Hindman Family Tree.ged into our review program, it is time for you to match your data to ours. Your next step is to review and resolve any potential warnings that your file might be showing and to match place names, source names and families to pages that may already exist in our database.

Notes:

  • You must complete all the steps before your GEDCOM can be considered for import. - We will keep your file in the queue for two months to give you time to finish, and you do not have to finish all at once.
  • If you did not follow the instructions for preparing your data before uploading your file or if your file does not contain at least one date and place for each person with sources, it is likely that your file will be rejected.
  • Volunteers are here to help. Please read the instructions first, but if you get stuck or have any questions, you can leave a message on the page for the GEDCOM review team. One of our volunteers will respond shortly.
  • Once you have completed the review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import on the last screen, one of our volunteer administrators will review the file again and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24-48 hours. Please allow a little extra time around the holidays. When the import is finalized, you will receive a follow up message here on your Talk page.

Admin follow up

Hello. I am a volunteer administrator and member of our WeRelate:Mentoring team. Since your file above has been in our review program for a few weeks, I took a look at it to see if I could help you get it through. The first thing I noticed is that there are no sources for any of your dates and places. This means that we will not be able to accept the file into our database as is. Luckily there are many free sources available on the internet that you can access to add to your tree. Once sources are added, I encourage you to create and upload a new version of your GEDCOM for another review. We also have volunteers available that can help you learn how to do this. If you would like some help, please just leave a message here on your Talk page, and one of our volunteers will respond shortly.
Best regards, --cos1776 00:31, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Photos [13 March 2017]

I saw your question on Susan's page about photos. My understanding is that if you inherit photos they are your property and belong to you so you have the copyright, unless they were taken in a photo studio, then the studio may have the copyright if they are still in business. I'm not sure what the time limit on photo copyright is, but I think if they are over 75 years old, then a studio may no longer own copyright.--Tammyhensel 12:56, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
