WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors. Now that you have uploaded export-BloodTree.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it. Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier. Click here to review your GEDCOM Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

[add comment] [edit] Gedcom Review [11 April 2016]Hi I am reviewing your gedcom prior to upload and there are a couple of problems. Most of the people in your gedcom do not have dates for any events in their lives, none of them have any places to show where they were and there are no sources listed. As you appreciate not having dates or places makes it difficult to match any of the people you want to upload to any that already have pages here and as our aim is to create one tree with one page for each person and one for each family we need to have some dates and places. Even an approximate date and a country or state would help, the more exact the better of course. The few with dates show that you got some data from somewhere, if you were to add a note or better still a source to show where the data came from then others would be more inclined to find more sources and add them, as it stands our patrolers are more likely to mark pages with no dates as possible living people and delete them. I am returning the gedcom to your review, if you could add any more details you can then request it can be uploaded again. If you have any questions, comments or need any assistance you can edit this page and add your text below this, I will see it and reply. --Rhian 07:48, 11 April 2016 (UTC) [add comment] [edit] Gedcom minimum [18 April 2016]Hi Tom thanks for getting back to me. WeRelate is a big confusing place, which is why admins here try to help users get going, it doe get easier with time. As you can only have one active upload at a time any questions raised will be about the currently under review one. As WeRelate is a collaborative site with only one page for each person or family it is important that we have enough data to match new people to any existing pages this would need a name and at least one date and place, It is always going to be a case that there are unknown things, perhaps you do not know a full name or any dates for some people so it is accepted that some may not have much data. I usually work on about 25% maximum provided they are linked to people with data which will allow an inference to be made, which may help in finding some facts. Currently there is no minimum requirement for sources, that will change soon, but if there are notes attached to people indicating where the info came from then the gedcom should be accepted. I appreciate your comments about entering data manually, often repeatedly, my full tree is over 20,000 people and all were entered by hand and with a census source being added to perhaps a dozen people it can get complex. I use Gramps software as I can enter the source details once then add a link to it whenever I need to. I do not know of any system using spreadsheets as you mention, though I can see the sense in the idea, up to the point of sharing it or working with others. WeRelate does allow you to create other pages and perhaps something like My Grist Page might give you ideas, it mat be possible to import data from a spreadsheet to create tables, though I am not sure about that. If I can help further please ask.--Rhian 07:57, 18 April 2016 (UTC) [add comment] [edit] Messages [20 April 2016]Hi Tom, it occurred to me that you may not of found the Talk page help for how to use the message system. [add comment] [edit] Sources [29 April 2016]Hi Tom, The email address you are contacting me on is receive only, I normally communicate through Talk pages. One of the pages I added sources to is Person:Daniel McMonigle (1). One of the best ways to get around is from the MyRelate dropdowm on the top of most pages the select Dasboard, this will show you any changes to pages you are watching and what changes you have made, it also gives quick access to your tree, profile and messages. Hope this helps --Rhian 07:30, 29 April 2016 (UTC) |
