Next step: Review your GEDCOM [26 January 2015]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Morgon-Jackson Tree_2015-01-26.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

William Williams family [14 September 2020]

Hi

I see you received my note made under Joseph Williams and added some information to his mother's page. I have made some adjustments to this. Our place database is quite vast, but it is kept to municipalities as they existed in 1900. Some cemeteries are listed, but I find it is better to stick with the town in the "place box" and give the cemetery under "description". Greater Manchester was not formed until 1974.

You have given sources for your information, but you have omitted the details that the sources provide. Last evening I added sources and details of baptisms for the four oldest children, but at that point I had to stop and call it a day. I have UK-FreeBMD details for the other children, but baptisms for them, if they exist, have not shown up. I see you have found the 1851 and 1861 censuses. The large box that is part of each Source provision is meant to be filled with the data you find in the source rather than the copyright details. I shall be editing the details for the 1851 and 1861 censuses shortly so that you will be able to see how the citation and the manuscript entry details can all be entered. Do examine the "editing" page as well as the completed one.

But it is your page for Joseph Williams that still confuses me and I haven't yet had time to check the facts any further in Ancestry. He appears to have emigrated from Lancashire to Massachusetts shortly after the birth of his second child. Have you found the records for the journey? They ought to exist in both UK and US records. I'm sorry, but it's been a decade or more since I used the UK emigration records and I can't remember the exact name of the file. (Passenger Lists on the Internet on the WayBack Machine may help.) Then you have an 1891 census entry in Newborough, Northamptonshire for him. Once again, do you have any records of his returning to the UK at that point? Joseph Williams is a fairly common name. It might be someone else. I do find it interesting that he found a similar job in Fall River to the one he had in Oldham.

The Williamses are not linked to me in any way. I work on the places database for WeRelate. Any time I find a red placename on a person or family page I try to correct it so that the people involved will be linked to the places in which they lived.

Thank you for everything you do. I appreciate your edits and taking the time to comment. I was excited to see your corrections. I will study how the citation and manuscript entry details are entered. No, I have not found immigration records for Joseph Williams. My sincerest thank you for your help.--TekRytr 19:51, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
