Can I ask how you're creating the places? [20 September 2009]

Hi,

You created a few places yesterday, including:

The place Place:Sorrel, Richelieu, Quebec, Canada doesn't exist, and the system isn't supposed to allow you to create places unless the "parent" place exists. Can you tell me how you are creating the pages? It looks like I need to fix a bug that's allowing you to get around this! :-)

By the way, in the case above, we do have a place named Place:Sorel, Richelieu, Quebec, Canada (with just one r), so I renamed the place you created to Place:Saint Pierre, Sorrel, Richelieu, Quebec, Canada.

Thanks.--Dallan 19:06, 19 September 2009 (EDT)

Hi,

Saint Pierre is the "Parish" or Church probably...a lot of the French Canadian place names you pick up in "sources" are written that way...it can be changed to just be Sorel without the parish.

When I uploaded the ged.com last night I went to each of the little tabs to see corrections, problems, people, places etc. Under the places one it said if it was "blank" on the right side a place wasn't found so I clicked on that place & it took me into a page to be able to select one that you had or it said I could add it so I just selected that option. I hope this makes sense & I didn't make a mess for you.

Lu Verne Beal [7 June 2010]

Hi Sue - my name is Scott Ward. Charles Hebert Wilcox is my great uncle. I have a picture of him and Lu Verne hanging in my living room! I'm new to "WE RELATE" but was very interested to see the pictures of Lu Verne and the obit. - Facinating to me. I always wondered where they lived!! Anyway - I'm always looking for stuff about Charles and Le Verne and have found some stuff. I never met Charles or Luverne, I was born to Charles' sister, Louise Wilcox, son Bruce and his wife Barbara in 1960. I just missed them!--Ssward930 03:11, 7 June 2010 (EDT)

Miller family [6 September 2010]

Hello Sue - I recently found the LICHTY BEAL names which includes connections to my MILLER ancestors. I see that William MILLER married to Anna Marie "Mary" Walker includes their children. However, I think that the son by the name of "Phoebe" is incorrect and should be "Phineas MILLER." Phineas would be my paternal 2nd great grandfather. I've added the name Phineas and also birth and death dates as I have found them in RootsWeb records. Also, my parents knew his name was Phineas. He would be my father's maternal great grandfather. Interesting to see the MILLER family here. 'Carrlee' - Carole Gates--Carrlee 02:21, 26 August 2010 (EDT)

Hi again Sue. Thanks for your commentS, info and editing regarding Phineas MILLER. I see you've also added his death record. So are our common ancestors the parents of Caroline MILLER and Phineas MILLER? William MILLER senior and Anna Marie 'Mary' WALKER. Just curious.--Carrlee 10:33, 6 September 2010 (EDT)

Gedcom problem [1 October 2010]

I reviewed your file. Thank you for handling it promptly. There are two items on the Warning tab to appear to be errors that should be handled before we import the file. The two children born 1810 need a better birth est in line with the other facts. The wife married after death just will not do. Something is wrong there - possibly the wrong person? Once you are done, just click the Ready to Import button again and I'll import it for you. --Judy (jlanoux) 03:20, 1 October 2010 (EDT) (WeRelate volunteer)

[moved from Jlanoux to keep conversation together] Judy, I tried going back onto my Trusty ged.com that you said still had two problems. It doesn't have any information in it. Can you tell me where I need to go to edit the two problems so you can upload the gedcom? Thanks. Sue--Suepcard 12:10, 1 October 2010 (EDT)

Sue, this is usually caused when you are not logged in. While anyone can see normal pages, your gedcom in review is confidential to you and the admins so you must be logged in to be able to see it. If you still have problems, leave another note here, I'm watching. --Judy (jlanoux) 12:21, 1 October 2010 (EDT) (WeRelate volunteer)

--- Judy, is there a snag somewhere? Because I removed the 1810 birth dates last night & the death date for Patsey. When I go into each of those three...the changes are noted but when I first bring up the warning it's showing the old information. What do I need to do to fix it? Sue--Suepcard 12:23, 1 October 2010 (EDT)

The Warnings are generated when you import the file and are static after that. So you won't see it go away. However, the Family page you see at the bottom panel of the Warning screen should show your changes. Just go ahead to the Import tab when you have done your fixes. You can make a note of the pages and check them after import.

Please reply HERE to keep the conversation together. It is expected that someone be watching your page when they leave you a message. --Judy (jlanoux) 12:33, 1 October 2010 (EDT) (WeRelate volunteer)

I went into all three again Elspetha, Ira, and Patsey and saved them on my way out. There are no dates for the births of the first two and no death date for Patsey. I resubmited the gedcom. Let me know if that worked or if necessary I can remove these three & add them in separately later.--Suepcard 12:49, 1 October 2010 (EDT)

Lewis Critchfield Rightmire + Mary unknown [1 November 2010]

Lewis' 2nd wife: Mary Rinehart, dau of Samuel and Elizabeth (Ewalt) Rinehart. Cutler indicates she married Lewis 10 Feb 1874 (does not agree with Lewis' obit nor with married 24 years in 1900 census)-- "KANSAS COLLECTION BOOKS," database, The Kansas Collection website is managed by Susan Stafford and Dick Taylor and was created by Lynn H. Nelson, retired Professor of History at the University of Kansas, The Kansas Collection (http://www.kancoll.org/books/cutler/ : accessed ); extracted from William G. Cutler, History of the State of Kansas (Chicago, IL.: A. T. Andreas, 1883). Detail text: “L. C. Rightmire, early settler in Pottawatomie Co., Kansas, married Mary Drake in Knox Co., Ohio, Feb 10, 1874.” Mary's first husband was William Larrason Drake. Based on cemetery data when she was over age 81, she apparently married a "Rowles" after Lewis died. http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/pottawat/potcem5.html Louisville Cemetery, (Rock Port), Pottawatmie County Kansas NAME BIRTH DEATH ROWLES, Eli M. 6/22/1827 11/15/1892 ROWLES, Harry A. 1863 1937 ROWLES, Mary Rightmire 1838 1925 ROWLES, Sarah Y. 1833 5./03/1875 Eli Rowles cannot be Mary Rightmire's husband (3rd) since he died in 1892 and Harry is much younger and thus unlikely. There were Rowles in the Knox Co., OH area [is there a tie to them?]. --- THE ONAGA JOURNAL 21 Dec 1882 Laclede item: Mr. Samuel Rinehart, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, is visiting with Mr. L. C. The funeral notice as it appeared in the Wamego Times, Wamego, Kansas is shown below: "L. C. Rightmire"

"Lewis Critchfield, oldest son of James and Lydia Rightmire, was born December 2, 1836, near Mt. Vernon, Knox County, Ohio, and died at his home in Wamego, Kansas, January 21, 1923, age 86 years, 1 month, and 19 days. He was married to Martha F. Welker in 1856. To this union four children were born. Mrs. Rightmire died December 23, 1873. On February 10, 1876, he married Mrs. Mary Drake. They moved to their present home in Wamego. Mr. Rightmire has been in failing health for several years, and was almost totally blind for two years.
"He is survived by his aged companion, four children, Milton, James, and Porter, of Wamego, and Mrs. Emma Townsend, of Wamego, one stepson, Edgar Drake, also of Wamego, seventeen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren, also two brothers, Ellis and Abe, who still live in the old home in Ohio.
"A short service was held at the home Tuesday, January 23, followed by services at the Methodist church, conducted by J. W. Tanner. The Odd Fellows had charge of the services at the grave."

Cards of Thanks

"We wish to thank the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us during the illness, and death of our beloved husband and father."

Mrs. Mary Rightmire, Milton Rightmire, James Rightmire, Porter Rightmire, Edgar Drake.

L. C. RIGHTMIRE, farmer, P. O. Laclede, was born in Knox County, Ohio, December 2, 1836. He has been a farmer always, but for fourteen years, in connection with his farming operations, was engaged as a general agent for an insurance company. In February 1876, came to Kansas, settling on a farm in Center township, Pottawatomie County. He is engaged in grain and stock-raising. Has 360 acres, all under fence and all tillable, except fifteen acres of timber. He was married, February 10, 1875, in Knox County, Ohio, to Mrs. Mary Drake. They have a family of six children by former marriages.

References to L.C. Rightmire and stepson Charles Drake: Kansas and Kansans ORGANIZATION OF STATE PEOPLE'S PARTY A resolution to place a full state and congressional ticket in the field was passed unanimously, and the name of the People's Party was officially adopted. The St. Louis platform of December, 1889, was taken as the basis of political principles. One man from each Congressional district made up the State Central Committee as follows: S. C. Rightmire [sic -- probably L. C. Rightmire, Vernon Vinzant], of Pottawatomie county; Z. T. Stevenson, of Cedar Junction; S. W. Chase, of Winfield; Charles Drake, Council Grove; G. W. King, Solomon City; Joseph Darling, Norton; E. M. Black, Sterling. One of the leaders of this convention, of course, was B. H. Clover. Among the resolutions was one refusing to vote for any of their number who would accept a nomination from either of the old parties, one demanding the abrogation of all laws not bearing equally on capital and labor, and one demanding that all honorably discharged soldiers, their widows and orphans be pensioned, and that all pledges made to them by the Government be complied with as fully as in the case of bond-holders.--Vernon 02:13, 1 November 2010 (EDT)

Elizabeth Rightmire + George Cole [1 November 2010]

Elizabeth is apparently already separated from George W. Cole by the 1880 census and living with her parents under her maiden name. An apparent 1880 history includes in "Sacramento County Biographys" a bio for George Cole indicating he married Elizabeth Rightmire in 1875. In 1880, George is in Center, Sacramento, California, with another wife, Sarah. In the 1900 census, Elizabeth is identified as divorced.

[V. Vinzant] The following is taken from FTM CD #3 pedigree 2475--I do not know the individual who submitted it. It has some interesting information. "Lib answered an advertisement for marriage from a Californian and returned 6 months later apparently having given birth to a son who came looking for her years later. Abe & Ellis joked that Lib said she could see anything--she was very nearsighted and wore thick-lensed glasses--only to go outside and trip over a cow. Shaw Changes [24 November 2011]

I don't know what was going on with Abraham Shaw, but you removed both the parents from the Family page without any explanation. I put them back. Then you changed John Shaw's wife from Alice Unknown to Alice Philips with out adding any source to justify this change (which happens to be counter to some of the literature such as a book in 1986 call Plymouth Colony, Its History & People by Eugene Aubrey Stratton, Historian General of the Mayflower Society, who said John Shaw had "a wife Alice, surname unknown", and other sources). I am struggling to figure out why I shouldn't revert that page, too? --Jrich 19:26, 23 November 2011 (EST)

Sorry about the mistake of removing Abraham Shaw and wife. I attached him to my John Shaw then realized you had another John Shaw in that family so removed him, obviously incorrectly. I added Phillips (and it may be incorrect but I'll check to see where I got it) to my Alice but will remove that until I get my sources out and inputted. I just put my Churchill line in this afternoon but have not put any sources into it yet...give me a little time. Thanks.--Suepcard 20:41, 23 November 2011 (EST)

Abraham Blubaugh Hochstretler [19 July 2012]

Morning Sue,

I am a German Baptist Brethren church historian and archivist. Presently I and two others are working to update the ministers and congregations as referenced in The Brethren Encyclopedia as published in 1983.

Recently I began work on updating the record of Bro. A. B. Hochstetler. When I begin working on a minister or elder of the church the first thing I do is scroll thru the 6,000+ images of the various almanacs in my collection. Then I begin accessing other printed Brethren materials in my extensive collection. One of the last things I do is to surf the Internet for anything of use. I often frequent FindaGrave.Com as well as anything else I can locate.

Thank you for posting the information concerning Bro. Hochstetler. Would it be possible to obtain a high-quality 600ppi color scan of his photograph for our archives? Any material you may have on he or his family, descendants or ancestors, who were also in the ministry would also be deeply appreciated.

We are trying to correct any errors made in Brethren history in the past as well as trying to add to it. To that end I am going to unlock the record of A. B. Hochstetler for three or four days so you can see what we have developed on him. One of the obituaries in his record is, I believe, courtesy of your efforts and the other is from a Brethren periodical in my collection. You can view his record here.

Cordially, A. Wayne Webb--A. Wayne Webb 06:45, 19 July 2012 (EDT)

I thought I read and understand it is recommended to write the names and surnames in lowercase. Friendly. Marc ROUSSEL ---Markus3 12:43, 19 September 2013 (EDT)

Invitation to Discussions on Norwegian Data Entry Standards [11 December 2013]

As a relatively recent contributor of Norwegian ancestry to WeRelate, I invite you to participate in two discussions. One is to set a convention for entering Norwegian names (see topic 8.2 Norwegian Names on WeRelate). The other is to set a standard for Norwegian place names. I look forward to anything you can contribute to either discussion. Thanks.--DataAnalyst 01:19, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Matthew Patrick Moroney and Katherine Cunningham [29 October 2015]

My name is Carol Mulroy, 651-644-8839. I live at 1114 Gibbs Ave, 55108 in St. Paul, MN and have been working in Ancestry.com for quite a few years. I retired from teaching children with special needs in 1999.

My great grandfather was Patrick Cunningham who came from Tipperary, Ire.in 1882. He had a sister Katherine and two brothers. Michael came in 1881 and John in 1884.

He worked on the railroad in a small town where he met my great grandmother who worked in the hotel. He married Alice McDevitt. They had one daughter, Ellen, in 1884. He died of consumption in 1889. He is buried in the "Moroney" plot in Calvary, Cemetery in St. Paul, MN. I wonder how the Moroney family had plots in a cemetery. The cemetery is large and has many graves with Irish names.

I was looking at old photos, one was Katherine and Matthew with two children, one a baby and a little girl. There is another woman, older, in the photo. I am thinking that the baby must be the boy, Matthew Patrick born in 1882 in Tipperary. Obviously that family came after 1882.

I had no information on that family so I typed the name, Matthew Moroney in Google and up popped this website.

I have to thank you for helping place a piece in my ancestry puzzle.

I would be happy to share the photo but do not know how to get it into this website.--Carolmulroy 22:53, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Policy against Living Persons [21 January 2016]

Hi, Sue. You might not be aware that WeRelate has a policy against inclusion of pages for living individuals (even if the data is obscured). I note that you have a few of these, such as Person:Living Staub (7). I would have marked this page for delete, but I note that Find A Grave shows a deceased son of Earl Staub, as well as Earl's deceased wife, and thought you might want to update the WeRelate pages instead of having them deleted. I am in the midst of cleaning up another very large file, or I might do this myself. Since you show 2 living sons of Earl (and 2 wives), you'll have to delete the page that you do not update. (I hope that was clear.) --DataAnalyst 02:08, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Moore.ged does not appear to be a GEDCOM [13 December 2016]

Next step: Review your GEDCOM [14 December 2016]

You're not done yet!

Now that you have uploaded Moore.ged into our review program, it is time for you to match your data to ours. Your next step is to try to resolve any potential warnings that your file might be showing and to match place names, source names and families to pages that may already exist in our database.

Notes:

  • You must complete all the steps before your GEDCOM can be considered for import. - We will keep your file in the queue for two months to give you time to finish, and you do not have to finish all at once.
  • If you did not follow the instructions for preparing your data before uploading your file or if your file does not contain at least one date and place for each person with sources, it is likely that your file will be rejected.
  • Volunteers are here to help. Please read the instructions first, but if you get stuck or have any questions, you can leave a message on the page for the GEDCOM review committee. One of our volunteers will respond shortly.
  • Once you have completed the review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import on the last screen, one of our volunteer administrators will review the file again and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24-48 hours. Please allow a little extra time around the holidays. When the import is finalized, you will receive a message here on your Talk page.

Click here to enter the review program You will see more instructions once you are in.

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to here you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Returning file to User [29 December 2016]

Hello. I am a volunteer administrator here and have reviewed your GEDCOM above. I am returning the file to you for some corrections before we can accept the data into our database:

  • All name entries must be entered in mixed case instead of all upper case (ex. change JOHN ALLEN SMITH to John Allen Smith).
  • At least one primary or secondary source per person should be included to lend credibility to the dates and/or places you are posting as research. Preferably most facts should be sourced. There are many resources available to help you find and cite sources, including many free online sites.

The easiest way to make these corrections is from within your genealogy program (i.e., by creating and uploading a new version of your GEDCOM). You could also make the corrections to the current version from within our review program, one page at a time, but that might take considerably longer.

If you have any questions about this process, please leave a message here on your talk page or at our community Support page, and one of our volunteer administrators will respond shortly. Thank you, --cos1776 12:39, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

I'd really rather you upload the gedcom. Let me change the names once on the wiki and I will then add all the sources you want ant that time, too. These are all siblings to my direct Moore line. Otherwise, I'll just skip it for now and send the information directly to the person who wants it.--Suepcard 19:32, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Ok. I took a look at some of your other existing pages. Since you are a long-time contributor (Thank you!) and have created some very nice pages with sources, images, etc., I am comfortable that you know how to correct the 66 affected pages. I will go ahead and import the file on good faith that you will fix the name fields and add sources. Best Wishes, --cos1776 16:19, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

Thank you...just found your message that you uploaded the Moore's on the 16th! I will get to work on them today.--Suepcard 22:18, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Moore.ged Imported Successfully [16 December 2016]

Congratulations! The pages from your GEDCOM have been generated successfully.

Now you can:

For questions or problems, leave a message for the volunteers on our GEDCOM review team.

Living individuals not allowed [8 September 2017]

Hi.

WeRelate policy does not allow pages for living individuals, and requires such pages to be removed. This policy has not always been strictly enforced in the past, but I am currently going through all pages with name Living to resolve or remove these pages. You can help by updating (if the person has died) or deleting any pages that you created for living individuals. Delete a page by clicking on more > Delete. If you are unable to delete a page for a living individual because someone else is watching the page, please add the template below to the page and I will know to delete the page rather than spend time researching it.

{{Speedy Delete|This person is living.|<enter date>}}

Note: You can tie related individuals together without a page for a living individual by making use of the following templates:

Inlaws
Soninlaw
Daughterinlaw
Grandchild
Grantparents

If you need help using the templates, please let me know. Thanks so much.--DataAnalyst 17:33, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

Samuel Hunt and Ruth Todd [12 September 2019]

You have done major damage to pages associated with this couple, including wiping out Mary Todd's page by merging, when the whole time there is an article cited by a highly reputable source on Ruth Todd's page showing she did not marry Samuel Hunt. This is creating a lot of work for someone to clean up because you did not review, respect, or refute the posted evidence. --Jrich 01:28, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

Events before birth [22 June 2021]

Hi, Sue

I wrote a report to find pages with events before birth. For a few pages, you were the last contributor. I'm sure you'll want to fix these - probably most are typos in dates. Thanks--DataAnalyst 15:58, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

Donald Robert Hostetler [22 July 2021]

I did not locate a death record either. I have posted the birth record information. I checked the 1930 and 1940 census Murray County, MN for Donald and he is not listed with the family. There is a gap where he would be between his two sisters.--Suepcard 19:54, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Pages for living people [17 December 2021]

Hi

I wrote a report to find all pages for people WeRelate considers to be living - anyone born in the last 110 years for whom there is no death date. If you have death dates for the people below, please enter them. Otherwise their pages will be deleted in about a month. (Note that you can enter (in infancy) or (young) in the death date field as applicable.) If you need more time for research, please let me know. Thanks--DataAnalyst 17:15, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
