Next step: Review your GEDCOM [13 April 2010]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded WE RELATE V1.uged16, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate lines and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Place pages [23 April 2010]

Hello, I am a volunteer admin; it's my job to help new users learn the system. Unfortunately WeRelate doesn't have the memory capacity to store addresses for events. Place pages are reserved of cemetery, town, county, country jurisdictions. I had to delete the address pages. Thank you for understanding.  :)--sq 12:58, 19 April 2010 (EDT)

As sq relates above, I think the discussion at the Watercooler on using street adresses (or other inappropriate place references) as place names might pertain to some of your pages and you may want to review the WeRelate policy on naming place pages. I understand this information probably came from your original genealogy program and uploaded into WeRelate through the GEDOCM process, so I've changed a few of the fact references for you to show you how you can change them without too much effort. Please review Person:Philip Conaty (1) and Family:Philip Conaty and Mary King (1) to show what I did. After changing the fact citations, then you can delete the inappropriate place pages (those with street addresses) rather than using the Redirect function, which just clogs up the system and causes confusion on the redirected page. Hope that helps.--BobC 10:30, 23 April 2010 (EDT)

Woodstock [15 May 2010]

Hello S A Conaty, I am a volunteer admin here at WeRelate. I noticed that you recently renamed Place:Woodstock, Cape, South Africa to Place:Woodstock, Windsor, Vermont. I undid this because since there is a town named Woodstock in South Africa, we need to keep that page. I then renamed your Place:Woodstock, Windsor, Vermont to Place:Woodstock, Windsor, Vermont, United States to conform to our naming conventions.

You may want to take a look at this page. This will list the places that were incorrectly linked to Woodstock South Africa during your gedcom upload. Some of these should have been linked to Place:Woodstock, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada instead. Feel free to post if you have any questions. --Jennifer (JBS66) 15:42, 15 May 2010 (EDT)
