Numbers in Name Field [3 November 2013]

Hello, we noticed that you've recently added several individuals to WeRelate with numbers in the name field, such as Thomas McClelland. We'd ask that you please do not add any additional numbers to the name field of persons on WeRelate and also would appreciate it if you could remove the existing ones, as numbers and/or special characters in the name field may interfere of cause errors in the search and/or merge functions at WeRelate, per the WeRelate Naming Guidelines as listed on the Help:Person Pages Tutorial.

Hello, Jim,

About the numbers in the name field of my McClelland family .... This happened during the import into WeRelate. The numbers are not in the name field in my FTM or on ancestry.com. The numbers are in a separate field called 'suffix'. Please have someone take a look at the WeRelate import to see if it can be modified so it does not import the 'suffix' field and add it to the 'name' field.

Another problem that I've noticed with the WeRelate import is that when I have female with only a first name and middle initial, the WeRelate import takes the middle initial and inserts it into the family/surname field. Then I get a message on the warning tab that tells me I have a person with only one letter as their family/surname.

Please have someone take a look at the WeRelate import to see if a modification can be made to avoid these situations.

Hello Again,

We've analyzed the gedcom you uploaded, and it DID contain several persons with numbers in the name field. For instance:

The gedcom contains the following line in the name field for the Thomas McClelland referenced above:

1 NAME Thomas Boston Smith /McClelland/ 67-1

Looking through the gedcom, many names look like this, and since the numbers are part of the name field in your gedcom, they are imported with those numbers into the name field, which we'd appreciate it if you would remove in future gedcoms and either fix in your existing gedcoms or remove those names with numbers.

In addtion, a more recent gedcom that you uploaded contains question marks in the name field, such as:

Thomas McClennan, and his father, David and brother John.

Again, we'd ask that you please revise their name field to remove the "?" from the name field and try to make sure your future gedcoms do not contain any numbers or special characters.

I came across your entry for Richard Eugene Dick, who is connected to my husband's family line. Did you know that there is a Mayflower connection with the Sipe family? It is through Forella Rogers Sipe's mother, Malinda/Melinda Fuller's ancestor, Edward Fuller, his wife & their son, Samuel, all passengers on the Mayflower. I will be glad to share info with you.
