Next step: Review your GEDCOM [21 March 2010]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded O_Brien Family of Kilmurry-Ibr.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

New place pages [24 March 2010]

Hello, welcome to WeRelate. I noticed that you created a number of new place pages, especially for Clare County Ireland. Some of these pages appear to be possible duplicates to pages that already exist here. Also, WeRelate's naming convention is to not use the words County or Parish in a place name, but instead indicate that in the Type field.

I would like to work with you to rename these pages. Since you are more knowledgeable about Ireland towns, I don't want to go and rename them without your input! Here is a link to our Place portal. From there, you can find information on our naming conventions. What I can do is post back here a bit later with some renaming suggestions, and perhaps you can let me know if I'm on the right track.

I did rematch and delete your 387 Norfolk Street, Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States place from your gedcom upload. We don't allow place pages for addresses, churches, hospitals, etc. We do, however, allow pages for cemeteries. Thank you, --Jennifer (JBS66) 06:18, 24 March 2010 (EDT) (WeRelate volunteer)

I worked on the places within Clare County and put them in a format of Townland, Parish, Clare, Republic of Ireland. This definitely highlighted the need for an Ireland place page reorganization project!

Regarding your place additions, I renamed them when I noticed duplicates, or was comfortable with putting them into the prescribed format. If you could, please take a look at the following questions and let me know how I can proceed. Thank you for your time. --Jennifer (JBS66) 15:05, 24 March 2010 (EDT)

Further questions on places [25 March 2010]

Kevin, thank you very much for your detailed explanations. I redirected nearly all of the place pages to the more standard Townland, Parish, County, Republic of Ireland format. I'm not sure if you have used wikis before, so just in case I want to explain redirects. When you uploaded your gedcom, you connected people to the places you created, like Place:Annagh Townland, Clare, Republic of Ireland. I redirected that place to Place:Annagh, Kilmurry (Ibrickan Barony), Clare, Republic of Ireland. This means that on your person and family pages, the place name you entered will appear. If you click on the link, however, you will be redirected to the new place name. If you want to see a hierarchy of this, you can click on More--What links here from any place page.

Now for my questions. I tried to use a standard townland name and I went by the 1911 census and the County Clare library pages.

For these below, you may want to redirect your place pages to the correct one yourself. To do that put #REDIRECT[[Place:PAGETITLE]] (substituting the page title of course) in the big text box on the place page. If you don't feel comfortable with that, let me know and I can lend a hand.

Thank you, --Jennifer (JBS66) 09:22, 25 March 2010 (EDT) (WeRelate volunteer)
