Wiki works! [18 December 2011]

Hi Jim,

I was notified that you made changes to your g-grandpa's page. Great! What I have not found is a way to communicate with another researcher without involving a change to a page. You were able to make text changes AND upload a photo! I think this wiki will be as useful for our purpose as Ancestry is.

Next step: Review your GEDCOM [21 May 2012]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Witts.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Moorsholm (or whatever) [30 November 2016]

I just found Little Moorsholm on this map. It is north of the settlement of Moorsholm and is probably no more than one farm. Remember, for a century or two before tractors, many farms had several dwellings for the workers (who were sometimes members of the family, i.e., in-laws, married sisters, cousins, etc.)

I took Great Moorsholm to be a farm at Moorsholm. As for the spelling, I found it in some list last evening as Mooresholm and can't trace it now. A database can't have numerous spellings for one place--if it did, nothing would ever get identified. I am not an expert on the Cleveland-Teesside part of Yorkshire.

Goldenoldie

You have been very kind to share the map! I have bookmarked it for further reference as I often run across documents that refer to the area. What a treasure. As for the spelling of Moorsholm I was not doubting that the area may have been Mooresholm at some moment in time, rather I was curious as to where you had found it. I apologize if in any way I offended you. You are absolutely correct that a database can only have one entry of this sort or it will become useless. And yet places change names all the time. How do we ever keep up? Genealogy is particularly a victim of this trend. In my family I also have place names that at the time were officially in one place, but through political change they "move" to a new place. That can be frustrating.

Again, thank you for your kindness in sharing the map, and my apologies if my questions came across as inappropriate.--Kurious2no 06:30, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
