CommonGround.ged appears to overlap a previously-imported GEDCOM [16 September 2010]

The pages from this GEDCOM have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate.

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM and you want to replace that tree with this GEDCOM, you need to delete that tree first so duplicates aren't created when you import this GEDCOM. Click on Trees in the "My Relate" menu, then click on the "delete" link next to that tree. Please be aware that any pages in the tree that are being watched by others won't get deleted. Once that tree is deleted you can create a new tree and re-upload this GEDCOM into it. (We're planning to make re-uploading GEDCOM files much simpler soon.)

If you don't think you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM, or if the two GEDCOM's don't overlap that much, leave a message for Dallan or send an email to dallan@WeRelate.org and we'll go ahead with the import.

Image Licensing [8 December 2010]

Hello, I am a volunteer admin and it's my job to help people learn the system. You asked for help licensing your images. I can't license your images but I can give your guidance. There are numerous licensing options, but most images fall into one of these categories:

  • Original published in US before 1923
  • Low resolution copy of an historical photograph. (When you reduce the image before upload, the resolution is reduced.)
  • Snippet of historical document
  • Work of US government--Public domain
  • If you took the picture, select the CC-BY-SA
  • If you know the photographer, get written permission.

Hope this helps. Please be aware that images left in the "Help needed" category for longer than two weeks will be deleted. If you have any more question please leave me a message. :)--sq 11:47, 8 December 2010 (EST)

Living people [9 September 2011]

I noticed that you have created pages for people who are likely still living (for example: this person). WeRelate's policy does not allow the creation of pages for living people due to privacy concerns. Please delete your pages for living people by clicking on More>Delete from the menu on the left. Thank you, --Jennifer (JBS66) 18:17, 7 September 2011 (EDT)

Thank you for your advisement. I have deleted three 'living people' pages, as you instructed. However, there are four left in my tree being watched by others, which seems to be preventing me from deleting them the same way. Is there another way?

Also, how can I show a union between someone who is living (my mother) and someone who is passed (my father)? If I simply delete this union page, then my two family branches aren't joined at the bottom.--Efoote 22:58, 7 September 2011 (EDT)

If a page is watched by others, then it would need to be deleted by an administrator. You can mark those pages for speedy delete which will tag them for admin review.
Regarding your second question, one suggestion I have would be to use a template such as Template:Pedigree3 or Template:Ahnentafel4 (we have a few different versions of these floating around...) Most users place these on their own User Page to show these connections. --Jennifer (JBS66) 06:25, 8 September 2011 (EDT)

Ok thanks, Jennifer, I think I got er done.--Efoote 18:00, 8 September 2011 (EDT)
