Next step: Review your GEDCOM [25 April 2016]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Matthew Dugan Family Tree.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Gedcom Review [25 April 2016]

Hi, I am an administrator with WeRelate and I am currently reviewing your import request.

I noticed you did not read the help pages and FAQ's about the upload process, especially the preparing your GEDCOM for upload steps? Would you mind telling me why not, it will help to make the process better if I can understand where we may be failing.

Your gedcom has a number of errors noted, are you happy they can be ignored, like children born less than 9 months apart? It is also important that you match all places with our places database, your more detailed places will be preserved and displayed but they must be matched for all functions of WeRelate to work. The same applis to sources though that is not as critical.

My recommendation would be to test the working of WeRelate by first trying a small GEDCOM, perhaps 50 people, say the ancestors and spouses of one of your grandparents or great-grandparents.

I am returning the file to your review until I hear why the warnings can be ignored, and the places are matched, if you have questions or comments you can edit this page and add your comments below, see Talk page help for more about this, or you can email me from my profile page if you prefer a private discussion.--Rhian 18:32, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Well even I can make mistakes I accepted your gedcom instead of returning it, you will have to deal with the problems caused by your import. If you need help please ask.--Rhian 18:39, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

What Next? [27 April 2016]

Now your gedcom is imported you will need to check every page is correct and fix the few places that are not correctly matched, I did several dozen for you. It would also be a good idea to find sources for many of the facts, other peoples family trees are not sources, you need primary or secondary sources preferably from free repositories and linked to our community sources. Seesources help for details about sources.--Rhian 07:54, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
