Next step: Review your GEDCOM [30 July 2012]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded export-Ancestors.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Haydon/Hayden Source [16 August 2012]

Greetings! I saw some of your edits and took the liberty of creating a source page to give you an example and to show how that can be done. Also normalized a few place names so that they lined up with the names as they exist in our place database (fewer red links). Hope you'll find these helpful. --jrm03063 10:41, 16 August 2012 (EDT)

Thank you, that is much better. Much appreciated. I am still learning the ropes.--Colettehj 19:04, 16 August 2012 (EDT)

Yorkshire Geography [11 October 2013]

Hi
Just a word about the history and geography of places in Yorkshire: Yorkshire was divided into the North Riding of Yorkshire, the West Riding of Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. In that year there was an across-England reorganization of local government which introduced North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire (as well as Cleveland and Humberside) instead of the Ridings. The borders between the Ridings are quite different to those between the present-day areas.

In WeRelate we try to described places as they were in 1900, so it is better to use the terms that include the word "Riding" in describing them. I am currently working on providing better descriptions for places in Yorkshire, but I started with what is now South Yorkshire and will not be working on West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire for a while yet. Yorkshire is a big place!

I can help further with specific places if you like.

John Learmonth [6 April 2016]

Hi Collette,

I came across your page here on a Learmonth search on Google, and picked out some of your info regarding Jack's wife which I did not have, and also Jack's death.

Just wanted to add that Jack's birth was 25 Nov 1909, not 1908 at 20 Arden Street, Edinburgh. I believe they have a daughter Jenny.

I am researching the Learmonth family from Orkney.

Best regards,

Kenny Learmonth--Kenlear 16:41, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
