Next step: Review your GEDCOM [18 October 2012]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Groothusen.GED, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Can't upload ancestors born prior to 1750 [19 October 2012]

Hello,

I apologize for the inconvenience, but unfortunately WeRelate can't accept gedcoms for persons born prior to 1750. These individuals must be entered by hand. Since all your persons were born prior to 1750, this gedcom has been deleted. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message. --sq 20:57, 19 October 2012 (EDT)

Not related [5 November 2023]

Hi

No, I'm sorry, but you haven't found a new relative.

I am a volunteer administrator trying to ensure that WeRelate has no pages for living people. Bertha Frau, the wife of Hans Beuß, came up on a list of potentially living people because it is possible that Hans was born as late as 1899 and therefore Bertha after 1913. A large gap in ages between husband and wife is less common in first marriages (which I assumed this was) so I felt it was safe to assume that Bertha was born before 1913. Also, I noted that Hans was listed before Richard on the family page - and even though I know that GEDCOM files don't necessarily preserve birth order, sometimes they do, and I thought it more likely that Hans was born before Richard than after. Adding an estimated birth year to Hans prevents Bertha from showing up as potentially living.

His birth year is estimated only - this is a guess rather than relying on sources. A birth year of "Abt 1875" requires a source, but an estimated birth year doesn't (see the help on estimated dates). However, I should have added a note to explain the estimate - I have just done that now.

Note that I only changed one page. You got 3 notifications because that one change affected Hans's page, his parents' page and his family page with Bertha.

Take care.--DataAnalyst 14:17, 5 November 2023 (UTC) Janet Bjorndahl, Volunteer Administrator
