RICHARD, Ipswich 1648, said to have come from Hemel Hempstead, Co.
Herts, rem. to Newtown, L. I. 1656, there was in high esteem many yrs.
and a. 18 Nov. 1713, at the age of 100, to render wh. great number
of yrs. doubtful, the stupidity of tradit. adds, that he dug his own gr.
By w. Joanna, Riker says, he had Richard; Thomas; Joanna, wh. m.
John Scudder; Mary, wh. m. Joseph Swazey; Martha, wh. m. Philip
Ketchum
; Elizabeth wh. was first w. of Joseph Sackett; and Sarah, wh. m.
Edward Hunt. RICHARD, Newtown, L. I. s. of the preced. d. 4 Nov.
1711, leav. Richard, Robert, Thomas, Sarah, Elizabeth Joanna, Abigail,
and Mary, beside wid. Sarah, wh. may have been mo. of all these ch.
ROBERT, Watertown 1636, but Bond can tell no more. ROGER, Milford,
1658, had then gr. of ld. but had been of New Haven 1644, where
he took o. of fidel. and of Branford 1646, and d. 31 Aug. 1658. By w.
Ann, he had Samuel, Peter, and Mercy all carr. from Branford to New
Haven for bapt. 1 June 1651, of wh. Peter d. in tw. yrs. beside Hannah,
prob. eldest of all; Roger, b. 20 Feb. 1652; and Mary. The wid. m.
John Cabell of Fairfield, and d. 1683, giv. all her prop. to s. Samuel,
with order to pay legacies to the other ch. without nam. them. ROGER
New Haven 1680, s. of the preced. SAMUEL, Branford, br. of the
preced. was a propr. 1679. SAMUEL, Norwalk, s. of Thomas of the
same
, m. 16 Dec. 1692, Judith, d. of John Reynolds, had Mary, b. 10
Sept. 1693; Samuel, 28 Oct. 1695; Stephen, 1 Aug. 1698; Nathan,
5 Nov. 1700; Hepzibah, 29 Oct. 1703; and Judith, 25 Aug. 1714.
THOMAS, Guilford 1650, Milford 1658, Norwalk 1664, in Hall's valua.
Hist. of N. p. 62, is favor. with larger num. of ch. in 1672, than any
other person, of wh. eight were b. bef. he rem. to N. viz. Thomas; John,
b. 30 June 1650; Hannah, 12 Nov. 1652; Stephen, 10 May 1655, d.
young; David, 4 Oct. 1657; these at G. Samuel, 4 Apr. 1660, at M.
and James, Mary, and Sarah, b. at N. He d. 1688, aged 72, in his will
of 10 May in that yr. nam. the five s. wh. in 1694 were all proprs. As
no ment. of Hannah is seen, tho. she had m. 13 Nov. 1672, she may
have d. Mary is call. w. of John Raymond; and Sarah was unm.
THOMAS, Newtown, L. I. s. of Richard the first, m. a. 1683, Mercy, d.
of Daniel Whitehead, d. 1709, and his wid. m. 1711 Joseph Sackett, as
third w. He left Richard; Thomas, b. 14 Aug. 1 689; Daniel; Mercy;
Abigail; Joanna; Mary; Elizabeth and Deborah. WILLIAM, Dorchester,
turner, had, I think, been at Barnstable, but first at Scituate, there had
join. the ch. of Lothrop, 25 Oct. 1635, and m. Feb. 1639, Alice, a
maiden of the Bay, and rem. with his min. to B. there had Hannah, bapt.
26 Jan. 1640; Samuel, 12 Feb. 1643; and s. Hope, 16 Mar. 1645. In
the list of those able to bear arms 1643, Geneal. Reg. IV. 258, it appears
Beetes.
