Template:Dup

This template is used to mark pages that are possible duplicates to:

• encourage further research to confirm or reject that they are duplicates
• give notice of a pending merge of duplicates, to allow a response in case an error has been made
• request that a more experienced person review and/or merge pages that have been identified as possible or definite duplicates

Usage

Place the following on a Person or Family page, in the Narrative section (due to its display size):

{{Dup|PageName1|PageName2|PageName3|PageName4|status}}

where PageName# is the simple page name (without the "Person:" or "Family:"), like "George Washington (1)".

Up to 4 page titles may be listed. They must all be of the same type (Person or Family), which must match the type of page the template is on. Do not list the page the template is being added to.

The status is optional. It gives you an opportunity to indicate (for example):

• only suspected duplicates, not confirmed
• notice of merge pending
• request a more experienced user to merge the pages

If the status is not provided, it will display as "not indicated".

The template should be used on all the potentially duplicate pages, so that all involved people will be notified via their watch lists.

Once a merge is ready to go, please remove the template from all affected pages.
