I. Jacob Kirk Gilcrest; Born January 28th, 1832, in Wayne County, Ohio. Educated at Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio. Moved to Iowa in 1856 and started a lumber business with his brother William H. He married Julia S. Williams January 7th, 1858. Julia was born in Summit County, Ohio, August 2d, 1833. She died September 8th, 1913, in Des Moines, Iowa. Jacob Kirk is still an interested member of the Gilcrest Lumber Company at the age of eighty-nine, and has been doing business in Des Moines for sixty-five years. The most of his family still reside in Des Moines. [next handwritten] Died Nov: 27: 1925, nearly 94.

II. William H. Gilcrest; Born in Wayne County, Ohio, June 26th, 1834. Educated at Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio. He came to Des Moines, Iowa, with his older brother J. K. in 1856, and was interested with him in establishing the Gilcrest Lumber Company, with which he was connected until his death in 1898. His name is still retained in the style of the company. He was unmarried.
III. John Smith Gilcrest; Born February 16th, 1836. Died January 13th, 1840.
IV. Sarah Ann Gilcrest; Born March 3d, 1838. Died January 13th, 1840.
V. Margaret Jane Gilcrest; Born March 3rd, 1840. Died at Des Moines, Iowa, in 1891. Unmarried.
VI. Ann Marie Gilcrest; Born March 2d, 1842, in Summit County, Ohio. Was pupil of Garfield in 1856. Married Jacob Lichty May 1st, 1867, in Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Lichty was born in Wayne County, Ohio. Served in the Civil War from 1862

to the close, in the 107th Ohio Volunteers, infantry. Was promoted by several advancements to the office of Division Quartermaster. Was dealer in building materials for several years at Sandoval, Illinois. His last years of active business was in the Gilcrest Lumber Company, Des Moines, Iowa. His home in Des Moines for many years has been at Twenty-eighth and Forest Drive. At the present date, 1923, he has been an invalid from apoplexy for several years. 1. John Benjamin Lichty; Born May 24th, 1868 at Sandoval, Illinois. Married Harriet Fitts, daughter of Captain Francis M. Fitts, in North Carolina, December 23d, 1897. He is at present connected with the Gilcrest Lumber Company, Des Moines.

5. William Gilcrest Lichty; Born May 27th, 1876, at Sandoval, Illinois. married Lucy Allbach, daughter of Edward W. and Eliza T. Allbach, of Des Moines, June 26th, 1914. Lucy, in preparing to teach German in the Des Moines high schools, spent one year in Germany. William, at present, is connected with the Gilcrest Lumber Company, in Des Moines.

XI. Clara Ida Gilcrest; Born January 4th, 1855. Died March 12th, 1860.
XII. Mary Belle Gilcrest; Born May 28th, 1857. Educated at Iowa State University. Taught in the Des Moines high school and Drake University a number of years. She, with her sister Caroline and her nieces, the Misses Lichty, made tours to Europe at different times, once to the Passion Play. In 1920, with her brother C. L. she spent a couple of months visiting in England and the Low Countries. Unmarried.
XIII. Charles Liggett Gilcrest; born October 13th, 1859. He was with his brothers in the Gilcrest Lumber Company for many years, and was the directing head of the concern. He was unmarried and he and his sister, Mary Belle, had their home at 2814 Forest Drive, Des Moines, Iowa. Died September 2d, 1922.
