Township of Union

Union is a civil township situated in the southwestern part of the county of Doniphan, state of Kansas, United States of America. It is bounded on the north by the township of Wolf River, on the east by the township of Independence, on the south by the county of Atchison (including its townships of Shannon and Lancaster), and on the west by the county of Brown (including its township of Washington).

History

A petition signed by more than fifty electors residing within the limits of a proposed new township was presented to the County Commissioners on 4 June 1878. The township of Union was organized on 10 July 1878.

Boundaries

The new township's boundaries were fixed to include an entire Congressional township as follows:

All the territory or tract of land in Wolf River Township, Doniphan County, Kansas, known as Congressional Township 4 south, and Range 19 east.
