History

Shannon was one of the three original civil townships erected at a meeting of the county commissioners on 17 September 1855 after the county was erected the preceding month.

Boundaries

The township originally comprised all that part of the county east of the old Pottawatomie road and north of Walnut Creek from its confluence with the Missouri River to the source of the creek, and a parallel line west to the old Pottawatomie road.
