Township of Sherman

Sherman is a civil township situated in the southern part of the county of Leavenworth, state of Kansas, United States of America. It is bounded on the north by the townships of Stranger and Fairmount, on the east by the county of Wyandotte, on the south by the counties of Johnson (including the township of Lexington and city of De Soto) and Douglas (including the township of Eudora), and on the west by the township of Reno. The Kansas river forms the southern boundary.

History

Sherman was organized by petition to the county board on 1 February 1869. It was named after General W.T. Sherman. The new civil township encompassed parts of townships 11 and 12 south, of ranges 21 and 22 east of the Sixth Principal Meridian. It was taken from the south end of the townships of Stranger and Fairmount.
