Township of Sharon

Sharon is a township situated in the southwestern part of the county of Noble, state of Ohio, United States of America. It is bounded on the north by the townships of Brookfield and Noble; on the east by the township of Olive; on the south by the township of Jackson and the county of Morgan and its township of Center; and on the west by the county of Morgan and its township of Manchester.

History

After the creation of Noble County, the township of Sharon was erected on 1 May 1851, from territory taken from parts of the Morgan County townships of Olive and Manchester.

Boundaries

In 1851, the boundaries were defined as follows:

Commencing at the southeast corner of the west half of section 32, in township 6 of range 9; thence north through the center of sections 32, 29, 20, 17, 8 and 5 to the northeast corner of the west half of section 5, in said township 6 and range 9; thence west along township lines to the northwest corner of section 3, in township 6 [sic, actually 7] and range 10; thence south along section lines to the southwest corner of section 34 in said township and range; thence east along the township lines to the place of beginning; containing twenty-seven sections.

The nine sections in township 6, range 9, were taken from the western part of Olive Township, and the eighteen sections in township 7, range 10, were taken from the eastern half of Manchester Township, reducing both townships to their present size.
