Township of Delaware

Delaware is a civil township situated in the east-central part of the county of Leavenworth, state of Kansas, United States of America. It was bounded on the north by the city of Leavenworth, on the east by the state of Missouri (including the county of Platte and townships of Lee and Waldron), on the south by the county of Wyandotte and the township of Fairmount, and on the west by the township of High Prairie. The Missouri river forms the eastern boundary. Much of its territory has since been annexed by the incorporated cities of Leavenworth and Lansing.

History

Delaware was one of the five original civil townships erected at a meeting of the county commissioners on 7 September 1855 after the county was erected the preceding month.

Boundaries

The boundaries were originally defined:

Beginning at the mouth of Seven-mile creek, thence down the Missouri river to the Delaware reserve line; thence, along said line, west to Stranger creek; thence up said creek to the southern line of Leavenworth township; thence east, along said line, to place of beginning.
