Research Tips

Busetnadssoga for Volda

As part of a municipal initiative from 1999, an extensive and very elaborate genealogical history of Volda has been published in book form. This multi-volume work took approximately twelve years to finish, but volume 1, which covers the entire known genealogical history of the former municipality of Dalsfjord, was released as early as 2005. This volume, and the rest of the five-volume work, makes genealogical research very simple for this area. That is, if you know Norwegian, as there is no English version. Nor is there a register of people, so one is dependent of knowing which farm the person in question was from or lived at.

The entire work is called Busetnadssoga for Volda (english: The Settlement History of Volda), and should be available on demand at any Norwegian library. In retail, the five volumes are priced at around NOK 600 ($100, give or take), but volume 4 is published in two parts, both at the same price.

The ISBN number for volume 1: Dalsfjord is 9788299408066.
