Facts and Events
He was the youngest son of Moses II and moved to Ohio and then on to the Niles and Buchanan areas in Berrien County, Michigan. He was a millwright by trade and farmed. Family legend has him to be of an adventurous spirit. Nothing was known about him for forty years until he got married to a girl just 14 years of age. Soon after their marriage they moved to various places in Ohio, always moving north towards the frontier. In 1829 he drove an oxteam to Niles where he was the millwright on a Grist Mill. He went back to Ohio and got his family and moved them to Niles in the dead of winter arriving in late February 1830. He worked at various jobs until he bought a farm at Buchanan where he lived the rest of his life, dying at an age of 76. S1 References
