"William Warden was reported by Barksdale in 1844 to be a family man living on the East Fork of the Trinity in old Fannin County. He was issued a certificate by Ward in 1850 for 640 acres, which he sold unlocated. It was later patented in Collin County (Fannin Third Class No. 898). He is listed on the 1850 census (Grayson County, family No. 85) as a 75-year-old farmer, born in North Carolina. He was illiterate. The Peters Colony of Texas, A History and Biographical Sketches of the Early Settlers, Seymour V. Connor, The Texas State Historical Association, Austin, 1959; page 422.

According to "Collin County, Pioneering in North Texas", by Capt. Roy F. and Mrs. Helen G. Hall, William Warden was born in 1808 in Kentucky, moved to Missouri and then later moved to Texas. It claims he was married in Cooper County in 1825 to his wife Hulda and his oldest son was born in Jackson County, Missouri. He also named another son Hesekiah. But it also says he was a veteran of both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. That's a pretty good trick considering he was born in 1808.

There is a record of a William Warden and Mahulda Butler being married in Jackson County in 1827. Thee is also a Hesekiah Warden marrying Sarah Butler in 1828 in Jackson County. I believe that these two are brothes to Margaret Warden, who married William Walker Butler.

The Wardens came into Texas in 1844 from Jackson County, Missouri, and settled in Collin County. This is the exact time-frame and locations as the Butlers. It is highly probable that these two families traveled together.

William and Hulda Warden, according to the book, also had a son named Robert. This is possibly the same Robert Warden who married Martha Jane Warren, who later married William Newton Butler.

The Revolutionary War veteran and War of 1812 veteran could very well be the grandfather and father of the Wardens. Need to check further.
