William Walby was baptised on 13th October 1650 at Aston in Hertfordshire, son of Martha Walby, formerly Smith, and her husband George Walby, a butcher. When William was ten years old his father died. William was left ten pounds in his father's will, to be paid within a year after his mother had also died.

No evidence has been found to suggest that William married. He appears to have died at the age of 51, being buried at Aston on 4th January 1702.
