Notes from Dr. Troha: I found confirmation of Daniel Sturgeon’s lineage in the following excerpt from his father’s biography:

Biographical and Portrait Cyclopedia of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, editorially managed By John M. Gresham, assisted in the Compilation by Samuel T. Wiley, A Citizen of the County; compiled and published by John M. Gresham & Co., 407-425 Dearborn Street, Chicago (1889).

William H. Sturgeon, Pages 228 - 230

Page 230, Column 1:

“Dr. W. H. Sturgeon was married in 1853 to Miss Emily V., daughter of John Dawson, a well-remembered lawyer of Uniontown. Their children living are two sons and three daughters : John D., a practicing physician of Uniontown; Daniel, an attorney at law, located at Uniontown ; Mary E., Katharine B. and Ellen B.”

This gives us a middle initial for his mother and some more background on his family.
