Facts and Events
William Spire was born in 1888 at Broom in the parish of Bidford-on-Avon, Warwickshire. He was the son of Ellen Spire, formerly Belcher, and her husband Jabez William Spire, a gardener and labourer. Shortly after William's birth the family moved five miles north to Alcester, living initially at The Moors, where they appear in the 1891 census, before settling in the Malt Mill Lane / Gas House Lane area from 1892 onwards.
In 1908, when William was 20, his father died aged 66. Just over two years later William's mother died aged 53. The 1911 census finds William and most of his siblings living at Malt Mill Lane with William's eldest brother Albert described as head of the household. At this time William was working as a gas stoker in the gas works.
William has yet to be researched after 1911.
