Facts and Events
Edgar Spire was born in 1895 at Alcester in Warwickshire. He was the son of Ellen Spire, formerly Belcher, and her husband Jabez William Spire, a gardener and labourer. Edgar was the youngest of the couple's eight children. He was baptised five miles south of Alcester at Bidford-on-Avon, where his parents had lived before moving to Alcester. The 1901 census finds Edgar living with his parents and siblings at Gas House Lane in Alcester.
In 1908, when Edgar was twelve years old, his father died aged 66. Just over two years later Edgar's mother died aged 53. Edgar was therefore an orphan at the age of fifteen. The 1911 census finds Edgar and most of his siblings living together at Malt Mill Lane in Alcester, with Edgar's brother Albert, who was 27, described as the head of the household. Edgar by this time was working as a farm labourer.
Edgar has yet to be researched after 1911.
