Facts and Events
Ruth Spire was born on 5th October 1892 at Alcester in Warwickshire, daughter of Ellen Spire, formerly Belcher, and her husband Jabez William Spire, a gardener and labourer. Ruth was the seventh of the couple's eight children. At the time of Ruth's baptism in 1893 the family was described as living in Malt Mill Lane. The 1901 census finds Ruth living with her parents and siblings at Gas House Lane (a continuation of Malt Mill Lane) in Alcester.
In 1908, when Ruth was fifteen years old, her father died aged 66. Just over two years later her mother died aged 53. The 1911 census finds Ruth living with most of her siblings at Malt Mill Lane, with Ruth's eldest brother Albert described as head of the family. At the time of the 1911 census Ruth was working as a 'needle paperer' in needle manufacturing.
Ruth has yet to be researched after 1911.
