Sarah Wallis (1797 Cork-1877 Strathblane) was dau of Henry Wallis (b. abt 1770) and Helen McCall (b. 1769, dau of James McCall (b. 1719) and Sarah Reid) (A. Duncan). A portrait of William Smith of Carbeth Guthrie (1787 Glasgow-1871 Kirknewton (Midlothian, though was buried at Strathblane, according to "Provosts of Glasgow")) by John Graham Gilbert was lent to Old Glasgow Exhibition by William Archibald Smith; William succeeded to Carbeth on the death of his cousin John Guthrie (1768 Baldernock-1834 Devon). John Guthrie was nephew of John Smith of Craigend, who was brother of Archibald Smith of Jordanhill (Exhibition catalogue).

A son of William and Sarah was John Guthrie Smith (1834-1894) who marr Anne Penelope Campbell Dennistoun (1839- 1883, bur Strathblane, Stirlings., dau of James Robert Dennistoun).
