William EUING, b. abt 1727, Glasgow (A. Duncan). Bailie William EUING married Isobel REID (1732-1814) 3jun1750, Glasgow (A. Duncan). This worthy couple had a daughter, Isabella Euing, who married Archibald Smith of Jordanhill and was great-grandmother of James Parker Smith now of Jordanhill, and a son William Euing, who was father of the late much-respected William Euing, insurance broker (see Memoirs and portraits of 100 Glasgow men). “The 4 Misses” - Agnes, the eldest was 16 in 1745. Her mother died 1739 and father 1741. Agnes became grandmother of our late Lord Provost, Sir Andrew Orr, and his immediate agnates, also of Mrs. Bell, wife of David Bell, esq. The other Misses were Isabella Reid (abt 1732, marr William Ewing, had dau Isabel Euing who marr Archibald Smith of Jordanhill, b. 1749), Elizabeth Reid (abt 1733, mother of Robert Reid, Senex) and Janet Reid (abt 1738, marr Francis Reid of Greenlaw). The Misses were children of Andrew Reid and Isabella Niven.

Francis Orr, son of John Orr and Agnes Reid, b 6sep1766, d 15apr1839; his son was Sir Andrew.

Isobel Euing (25mar1755-28sep1855) was daughter of William Euing, Bailie of Glasgow (Old Glasgow Essays, J. O. Mitchell, 1905). Scottish archives have the will of Isabella Smith or Ewing, d. Ibroxhill, Co. Lanark, widow of Archibald Smith of Jordanhill, presently res. at “Throchill”, reg. 9sep1855, Glasgow, and of Archibald Smith of Jordanhill, Glasgow merchant, reg. 11oct1822, Glasgow (scotlandspeople). Ibroxhill was in Govan.

A portrait of Isobel Euing or Smith (25mar1755 Glasgow-28sep1855 Ibroxhill) by John Graham Gilbert was lent to the Old Glasgow Exhibition by Mrs. Archibald Smith of Jordanhill. Isobel was daughter of Bailie William Euing and Isobel Reid (Exhibition Catalogue).
