1841 - Living with his mother in The Street, South Lopham. Aged 3.

1851 - With widowed mother in South Lopham village. Farm boy, aged 12.

1861 - Living alone in South Lopham village. Master shoemaker, single, aged 22, born at South Lopham, Norfolk.

1871 - Living in South Lopham (village) with wife. Shoemaker employing one man. Aged 32.

1875 - Living in South Lopham. Shoemaker. (Baptisms)

1881 - Living with wife and five children in the village, South Lopham. Shopkeeper and shoemaker. There is also a domestic servant, Ellen BELL, aged 14, born at Kenninghall, Norfolk, living with them.

1889 - Living in South Lopham. Shopkeeper. (Baptism)

1891 - With wife and eight children at the Grocer's Shop in the Street, South Lopham. Grocer.

1892 - In Kelly's Norfolk Directory, there is a William SARE, shopkeeper, listed at Lopham.

1901 - With wife and three children, living in The Street, South Lopham. Self-employed grocer and draper, working from home.

1905 - William owned two tithe plots in North Lopham - Plots 289 & 190 (NRO: PD 12035). He lived in South Lopham and also owned one tithe plot there - Plot 387 (NRO: PD 12035).

1912 - After William's death, probate was granted at Norwich on 28 March 1912 to William SARE (carriage builder), Florence Sarah FENN (wife of Nathan FENN), Elizabeth Susanna SARE (spinster) and Sarah Ann SARE (widow). Effects £1043-13-00d. Re Sworn £1073-13s.

According to a transcription made by the Women's Institute, William's gravestone is insribed: In loving memory of/ WILLIAM SARE/ who died/ December 12th 1911/ aged 73 years/ A light is from our household gone/ A voice we loved is stilled/ A place is vacant in our home/ Which never can be filled./ Come unto me ye weary, and I will give you rest.

The headstone and footstone, inscribed W. S/ 1911, are both sandstone.
