William was the son of John Rorie and his wife, Hannah. In 1757, William married Judah Butler in Caroline County, Virginia Colony. They had the following children in order of birth: Reuben, Judah "Judy," Lucy, James, Ann, Elizabeth "Betsy," Hezekiah, Mary "Marie," and Martha "Millie." In 1776, William settled in White Store, Anson County, North Carolina, where he lived until his death. His grave is said to be unmarked.

Know all men by these presents that we Job Meadows, James Morie [sic - Rorie], Alfred Sinclair, John Pounds, Thomas Hill are bound unto James Autry and John Autry Gurardians of Bethuel Autry and Polly Autry in the sum of 250£ the conditions is such that if Job Meadows, James Morie [sic], Alfred Sinclair, John Pounds, Thomas Hill pay to said James Autry and John Autry Guardians and Bethuel and Polly Autry 23£ 7 shillings and 6 pence or an 1/8 part of the money to be produced by the sale of a 373 acre tract of land of the estate of the late William Morie [sic - Rorie] dec'd on or before 1 Jan next Then the above obligation to be void otherwise to remain in effect.
