Export merchant. In 1881 the household consisted of: William (51), Mary Ann (wife, 51), Sarah (daughter, MARRIED, 27), Joseph (son, unmarried, 22, b. Cape ofGood Hope), Mary (daughter, 9, b. London), Hetty (7, b. London), Hugh Pinfold (sp, 4, grandson) plus various servants including a footman. Cannot be sure that Mary Ann is the mother of Sarah and Joseph - there is a large age gap betweenthe younger and older children. This might be a second marriage. Note the Sarah Richards is married but her surname is given as 'Richards'. She is most likely the Sarah Frances Richards who married Captain Penfold in 1875, and the mother of Hugh Penfold. |
