Facts and Events
This William Reed was from Batcombe, England, and should not be confused with William Reed {1637, Weymouth} or William Read {1635, Dorchester}.
On 20 Mar 1634/5, "Willm Read of Batcombe, tailor, in Somstt", 28, Susan Read, his wife, 29, Hanna, daughter, 3, and "Lusan" (sic), daughter, 1, were enrolled at Weymouth as passengers for New England on the Marygould {here).
Anderson's Note on Sources
"The prior literature on this William Read and the other William Reads of Weymouth and Boston contains so much confusion and error that no attempt will be made here to address and correct all problems. By far the best treatment of both William Reads of Weymouth was published in 1945 by Donald Lines Jacobus [Granberry 297-303]]. Less successful but still useful is the work on these families by George Walter Chamberlain [Weymouth Hist 4:565-66, 568-69]. Both Savage and Pope muddled the records for these men [Savage 3:519-20; Pope 380-81]. Jacob Whittemore Reed's History of the Reed Family in Europe and America (Boston 1861) is worthless."[1]

Marygould (1635)
|
This ship carried the "Hull Company", a group of settlers traveling with Rev. Joseph Hull, who settled in Weymouth after reaching New England. Some references to this ship consider it unnamed, but more recent Great Migration profiles say those who enrolled at Weymouth on 20 Mar 1634/5 sailed on the Marygould.
