Facts and Events
From Patricia Prickett Hickin: "William Benjamin Franklin Prickett was the son of Job Prickett and Mary Ann Price and the great-grandson of Captain Jacob Prickett/Prickit, one of the earliest settlers in the county and a founder of Prickett’s Fort, which he and others built on his land in 1774 at the beginning of Lord Dunmore’s War. In the early 1850s his older brother James Monroe Prickett moved his family to Illinois about 1855ff, together with parents Job and Mary Ann, brothers, sisters and their families to Carbondale, Jackson Co, Illinois, which was booming as a result of the completion of a railroad from Cairo to Chicago. Despite differing political views and the Civil War WBF and James and their families remained close. "By ca 1856 WBFP had moved his young family from Marion County to Roane Co, (W)VA. A Confederate sympathizer, after war broke out between North and South, he moved his family to pro-Confederate Greenbrier County, (W)VA, and lived there for the remainder of his life." 1870 United States Federal Census > West Virginia > Greenbrier > Blue Sulphur Prichet, Wm.
